History
Launched in 1921, "Creosote" was built for the Wycoff creosote plant on Bainbridge Island. She hauled barges of treated logs to construction sites throughout the Puget Sound and would haul rafts of untreated logs to the plant for processing. It also wasn't uncommon for it to be used as an occasional ship assist.

Later in life "Creosote" has become an iconic historic tug throughout the northwest. In 2015 she underwent a significant rebuilt under the direction of her late owner Rob Wohleb and continued working as an assist tug, helping boats that needed tows when broken down. The vessel was Donated to HMF in august of 2025.

2014-2015
Rob Wohleb and shipwright Clint Thompson rebuild and restore the majority of "Creosote". Ensuring the structural longevity to bring this boat into the next 100 years. Clint's craftsmanship and Robs dedication are the sole reason "Creosote" is around today for so many to enjoy.
March 2025
Rob Wohleb, Creosote's late owner passed away. It should be known that Creosote's continued life is credited to his dedication to historic preservation. Not only was he a kind soul to those who came across him, but he was a champion of engineering and preservation.

Following his death HMF begins managing the vessel for the Wohleb family.

August 2025
The Wohleb family generously donated "Creosote" to HMF. The foundation races the boat in the 2025 Olympia harbor days in the first time since Rob's passing, taking 2nd place in honor of Rob Wohleb.
December 2025
"Creosote" will be hauled out and undergo some work on her house and receive a new paint job back to her former colors. Ballast will also be added to bring the bow lower in the water to attempt to restore a more efficient waterline.
